RISIDA

RISIDA
Risida ( meaning rishi pada, a hamlet of the sages) is located in the northeastern corner of Kalahandi district, Odisha. It is under Madanpur Rampur Police Station. This place coordinates 20°23'21"N latitude and 83°29'13"E longitude. Risida is a rurban cluster of three rural settlements with a population over 5000 (2000 estimated) in the backward district of Kalahandi. It is located at the tri-junction of Kalahandi, Balangir and Kandhamal districts of Orissa. Since the British period, Risida has developed as a business and educational centre serving to the peripheral areas of these districts. Risida was divided into three revenue settlements for the collection of revenue during the reign of different kings(Maharajas) of Kalahandi. These settlements were under the supervision of M. Rampur Zamindar. As it is located at the border between Kalahandi and Patna(now Balangir) princely states along the bank of the Tel river, it has been developed an important business centre since then.

Now the time has changed. This place has the educational institutes of +2 and Degree Colleges, Boys and Girls high schools, hospital, Police Post, Area Hospital, Veterinary Hospital, telephone exchange, bank, Bus Stand and more than 100 shops and also marketing complexes. Risida has developed into a Growth Point in the district of Kalahandi. This place has a weekly hat(Saturday) which gathers about 42, 000 people on Saturday. It is located at remote north-east corner of Kalahandi. Risida serves to the nearby locality of about 55,000 population of Kalahandi and Balangir districts, for a radius of about 20 kilometres. Risida is well connected with different parts by roadways and frequent buses are plying to and from Bhawanipatna, M.Rampur, Kesinga, Balangir, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Baliguda, Titilagarh, etc. Risida is 42 kms. From Kesinga, 50 kms. From Balangir, 60 kms. From Narala Road rail stations of the East Coast Railways(Eco. Railways).
